IRQO Statement on July 19, 2007

Date: 09-July-07

On the anniversary of the tragic event of July 19, 2005 in, Iran, the execution of two teenagers by the accusation of homosexual acts, we appreciate the help and support of many, individuals and organizations that encouraged us to continue our struggle for providing a safe and dignified environment for Iranian queer people.

This year again, by following our policies and actions of the first anniversary of July 2006, we will be focusing our attention and resources on informing our communities at large and educating people on the issues of violations of human rights with regards to the Iranian sexual minorities.

In our organization’s belief, our actions will be most effective when we employ a civic means of discourse and avoid any extreme measure that may eventually result in fragmentation of the community that we work for.

We encourage our friends and supporters to take this opportunity to approach all segments of government offices, the media and international humanitarian organizations to express their concerns not only about the grim conditions of queer community in Iran but also about the difficulties that awaits these people when they are forced to leave Iran.

We should all work towards the decriminalization of the queer ID in Iran as well as the assurance of full support and protection by the members of the international community outside of the Iran’s boarders.

With solidarity,
