IRQO Needs Sponsor for an Important Event in USA About Iranian Queers (November 20, 07)

Equality Forum advances national and international gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) civil rights by educating the GLBT community and society at large about GLBT issues. Equality Forum is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization.

Equality Forum develops innovative, high-impact educational programming and content in the form of documentary films, history projects and educational forums to enhance understanding of GLBT issues.

These materials are than distributed in collaboration with educational institutions, professional associations, non- and for-profit organizations and research centers and via live events, traditional media and online media. Equality Forum offers educational content that complements the missions of other non-profit organizations and learning institutions

Arsham Parsi, Executive Director of IRanian Queer Organization – IRQO has been invited to be a Panelist on the Gay and Lesbian in the Muslin World Panel at Equality Forum 2008.  The moderator of this panel will be Michael Luongo, author of “Gay Travels in the Muslim World” (http://www.gaytravelsinthemuslimworld.com/).

Equality Forum 2008 will be held from Monday, April 28, through Sunday, May 4, in Philadelphia, USA.  The “Gay and Lesbian in the Muslim World” Panel is tentatively scheduled for the evening of Thursday, May 1.  The program will be archived and made available via video stream on the Equality Forum Web site (www.equalityforum.com), and would be available for everyone free of charge.

Equality Forum plans to distribute 500,000 full-color brochures in twenty-two North American markets.  IRQO program will also be promoted on their Web site, over 100 press kits and 120,000 schedules of events. Equality Forum acknowledges participating organizations in their brochure, Web site and press kits.  They anticipate regional and national media coverage.

Equality Forum is grateful that over the past 15 years, all moderators and panelists have donated their services and the organizations they represent have underwritten their expenses.  There is no registration fee for Equality Forum 2008, and all substantive events are free. So Equality Forum can not sponsor any organization or give them scholarship for cover their charges.

During the last year generous donations from IGLHRG, EGALE Canada, Al-Fatiha Foundation and many individual human rights defenders made it possible for Iranian Queer Organization to help Iranian queer community around the World. Throughout the past years, we in IRQO were amazingly successful at creating a global shift in consciousness around Iranian queer issues. From the national and international conferences and meetings we attended and organized, to media and public awareness campaigns we engaged in, IRQO has raised significant awareness about the plight of Iranian queers. Equality Forum 2008 is very important for us and actually it is a big step for our cause and all Iranian Queer in general.

IRQO has also played an extremely influential role in cases of Iranian queer asylum seekers. The Organization sends letters of support on behalf of Iranian queer asylum seekers to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and to European countries where refugees usually are tried for their cases; and follows up their cases to the end with care IRQO has also been trying in the past year to financially support queer asylum seekers. Many Iranian queer asylum seekers live under extreme financial difficulties as their families and friends have abandoned them. We spend about 95% of our donation for Iranian Queer asylum seekers and we don’t have extra budget for this kind of events.

We need some sponsor for this important upcoming event. Please contact us for more information.
